Name: Marnie Rose Walshe
Age: 19 years old
Where were you born/live? A little town on a lake called Mulwala, born and raised.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? My favourite thing to do is making goodies for my lil business Marmalade Gardens. I also love relaxing in the sunshine, hanging with my pals ( and my silky terroir!!!), listening to good tunes all that sort of thing.
What are some obstacles you faced during puberty? Ooooh wee interesting question! I was never too fazed as a young chick; I’d always seem to find my way around/through different situations. I suppose an obstacle for me in my younger days (even still now) is I find it hard to confront situations with negative/pessimistic people. I think I used to find it a bit hard to stick up for myself, I’d find it easier just to let things slide when I probably should have told certain friends that how they’re acting actually isn’t okay. But the older you get the more you learn hey!! And I am glad those sorts of people aren’t around me anymore.
What are you most self-conscious about? I bite my finger nails, and hate it!!!!
How do you believe social media is affecting body image and self-love? Social media (especially Instagram) has taken a massive turn in the last few years with body image and self-love. SO many people are expressing and encouraging individuality, being you own, and radiating happiness. Everyone can get caught up in wanting to look a certain way, and have a certain figure, but the reality of that isn’t always going to happen. There is beauty in everything and everyone!! And I think social media is really starting to express that. There is still a long way to go, especially in the modelling aspect of things, but I really do believe we are getting somewhere with all this self lovin.
What is something you deeply love about yourself? Gee Wizz, I think I’d have to say that if I put my mind to something, and feel passionate enough about it, I’ll find a way to do it. I just always keep an open mind and have the outlook that it’s going to work, and 99% of the time it does.
How do you practise self-love? By listening to myself and doing things I want to do and what my body wants (like eating my veggies!!). Dressing the way I want to and loving myself when I’m wearing sick as fuck 80s gear. Even things like booking a holiday or concert, you know, things that your future self is going to be super happy you did. I think it’s so important to do what you love, and for me it’s not get caught up in the 9 to 5 lifestyle.
Do you get jealous easily? Nope not easily!!
Why do you believe you have been put on this earth? To radiate and smile and create and to connect with other people and make them feel something, and to encourage others to go with their gut feeling not sit back and think what could have been.
What characteristics do you portray into the universe? I’d like to think positivity, but it’s hard to say, I feel like this is a question I need someone else to answer for me haha
What are you most passionate about? My art!!
Who are your biggest motivators? I have so many!! Cyndi Lauper is a huge one, she is one amazing lady (her book is amazing too). SooOo many others like Jeff Buckley, Keith Haring, Patti Smith, the list could keep going!!
What are your biggest fears? Having a dull life. Also Lotus plants, I’ve got a severe case of Trypophobia man.
Have your fears ever stopped you from being yourself? Not at all really!! Always been a big goer of being myself ever since I was a little tacker.
Thank you so much Marnie for taking the time to answer these questions. She didn’t ask me to do this but I wanted to dedicate the end of this blog post for her incredible business. The jewellery she creates is so beautiful, fun and super original. The next few pictures include her website and a few of her incredible pieces.
